Call for Applications - iASK Research Scholarships 2018


The Institute of Advanced Studies Kőszeg (iASK) invitesapplications for its research grant program from all scientific disciplines for the period of 1 April - 30 June and 1 September - 31 December 2018 for the maximum of 6 months.

Preference will be given to applications focusing on interdisciplinary social science and humanities OR to applications in the natural sciences but with a social scientific relevance. Topics that can directly relate to the research centres and programs of iASK are also preferred. Research proposals should connect theoretical knowledge with practical analysis that has the potential to result in concrete policy recommendations.  

The topics of interest for the year of 2018 are as follows:

Polányi Centre:

a.     Interdisciplinary Central European studies

b.     Complexity studies from a social scientific perspective

c.     Democracy, globalization and social-economic polarisation (security, war, violence, changing energy paradigms, water scarcity, causes and consequences of migration)

  1. Past and present traumatised societies and effective forms of conflict resolutions
  2. Interdependent aspects of sustainability (social, economic, institutional, political)
  3. Conflict and cooperation in evolutionary systems and societies

KRAFT: Creative Cities and Sustainable Regions in a Global and European Context - comparative perspectives

Hankiss Centre (open only for young researchers):

a.     Robotics and ethics

b.     "Third reality" in the information age

c.     Digital humanities - trends, applications, results

Big Data (open only for young researchers): data mining and applications of open data analysis for social scientific projects of iASK, teamwork and cooperative research proposals are welcome and highly prioritised

 

Application deadline: 20 December 2017 (midnight)

Applications should include a completed application form, a research proposal, a signed declaration form, and an academic Curriculum Vitae. Young researchers are to attach 2 professional recommendation letters as well.

iASK Research Scholarships 2017



The Institute of Advanced Studies invites applicants to submit proposals 
for the period of September 1 - December 31, 2017.


The scholarship call is open to applicants from all scientific disciplines.

Preference will be given to applications focusing on interdisciplinary social science and humanities research into the topics of social and economic innovation, globalization, European integration with a special focus on Central European cooperation, local, EU-wide, and global crisis, cultural heritage management and sustainability. 

Proposals are to be submitted to iASK. 


The list of topics for 2017 are as follows:

- Global and Regional Studies, Political Economy and Global Governance (Complexity, Democracy, Globalization, Migration, New Social Movements, Post Conflict Societies, Social and Economic Inequality); 

- Sustainability Science - economic, environmental and social sustainability (Globalization and Sustainability, New Economic Models, Innovation and Crowd Sourcing for Sustainability, Disrupters and Alternatives to Corporate Capitalism); 

- Conflict and Cooperation in Evolutionary Systems (Quantum Mechanics and Culture, Cooperative Solutions to Historical Conflicts, Origins of Human Non-genetic Inequality, Evolutionary Roots of Morality, Kinship and Group Selection)

- Social Applications of Big Data;
 
- The Theoretical Study of Interdisciplinarity; 

- Innovative Pedagogy;

- Central Europe: Intellectual History, Regional Literary Studies, Regional and Local Musicology;

- Creative Cities and Sustainable Regions: Sustainable Tourism, Creativity and Innovative Project Management, Innovative Business Models

Research proposals should connect theoretical knowledge with practical analysis that have the potential to result in concrete policy recommendations. Research proposals from the fields of the natural and life sciences, informatics, and the creative arts are included if they can encompass and reflect the topics outlined above. 

The application process starts with the release of Calls for Proposals. 

The deadline for the submission is February 15, 2017.

Individual Research Scholarships

for Hungarian and International students and researchers

at The Institute of Advanced Studies Kőszeg (iASK)

The Institute of Advanced Studies (iASK) invites applicants to submit proposals for the period  September 1 -  December 31, 2016.

 

The scholarship call is open to applicants from all scientific disciplines.

 

Preference will be given to applications focusing on interdisciplinary social science and humanities research into the topics of social and economic innovation, globalization, European integration with a special focus on Central European cooperation, local, EU-wide, and global crisis, cultural heritage management and sustainability. 

 

Proposals with topics that can directly relate to the research centres and programs of iASK will be given preference.

 

These are as follows:

 

a) Polányi Centre - global and regional studies, political economy and global governance, the crisis and transformation of the EU, theoretical and empirical studies of democracy and civil society

b) Big Data Centre - methodology of open data 

c) Sustainability Science - economic, environmental and social (incl. institutional) sustainability

d)Conflict and Cooperation in Evolutionary Systems

e) KRAFT: Creative Cities and Sustainable Regions, focusing on comparative analysis within the  larger regions of East-  Central and Southern Europe

f) Creative Arts and Science - interface of art and science in music and visual arts

g) Hankiss Centre - the study of Elemér Hankiss’ late work and the theoretical study of interdisciplinarity
